Swimming Tests and Kayaking - perfect for a rainy day - Saturday February.18, 2017.

The crew of Ship 300, and some friends from BSA Troop 92 Milpitas,
met at the SJSU pool for swim tests and intro-to-kayak lessons.

First job -- swim 3 laps on your front, then 1 lap on you back.

Nathan zoomed thru the swimming portion in great form and great time.

On to treading water for 5 minutes.  Easy peasy!

Hmmmm, floaties in the pool?

Dr. Reekie simulates jumping into the pool -- though she didn't jump.

Then the kayak fun starts.

Nathan was the first into the kayak.

Lots of wet-exits and wet entries.

Our first wet-entry guys.

Awesome form!

Done, in the boat, ready to paddle to Hawaii...  Or maybe Australia?

Great paddling form.

Practicing wet entries.

The trick is, bow-to-stern and stern-to-bow.

Crawling up is OK too.

Practicing emergency swimmer-down techniques.

Safety crews at the rescue.

Time to pump the kayaks.

Nathan takes the bilge pump.

Packing up and out the door...

Down the steps with the kayaks...

And to Dr. Reekie's truck for transport back to kayak storage.

All in all, a great way to spend a day!

Special THANK YOU to Dr. Shirley Reekie for the awesome tests and kayak lesson
And to SJSU for letting us their pool!
